The Legion of Mary is a lay apostolic association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix (mediator)of All Graces, serve the Church and their neighbour on a voluntary basis in about 170 countries. With the approval and support of the Popes and a great many bishops, priests and religious, as well as the prayers and efforts of legionaries, The Legion, by the grace of God, has grown into a worldwide organization with several million members.
The Cause for Beatification has been introduced for three legionaries: The Servant of God, Frank Duff (1889-1980), Founder of the Legion, who attended the Second Vatican Council as a Lay Observer; Venerable Edel Quinn (1907-1944), Legion Envoy to East Africa; and the Servant of God, Alfie Lambe (1932-1959), Legion Envoy to South America
The basic unit of the Legion is called a Praesidium, which is normally based in a parish. The Praesidium, usually a group of 3–20 members, meets weekly in its parish. St. Theresa Praesidium is the Lady of Mount Carmel.
They meet every Wednesday afternoon, 1:30-3:00 PM in Room 2 in the parish center.
The Legion of Mary is open to all Catholics who:
“Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God, then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus”.
(Philippians 4: 6-8)
At times we all need spiritual support, especially when experiencing an illness, preparing for surgery, or any other difficult situation. The Legion of Mary would like to offer their spiritual support by praying with you once a week over the phone. We will pray with you any way you wish. You may have a favorite prayer or psalm, or wish to pray the Rosary or Divine Mercy, or a 9 week novena—whatever you would like.
We cannot offer guidance or counseling, but can refer you to St. Theresa’s clergy if you wish.
If you wish someone to pray with you over the phone, please contact the rectory at 978-664-3412 and someone from the Legion of Mary will contact you directly. Or you can email the Legion of Mary directly at [email protected]t or [email protected].
Members meet once a week for prayer, planning, and discussion in a family setting. They do two hours off definite work each week in pairs and under the guidance of their spiritual director.
